INVITED-TRIAL GUIDE · UPDATED 9 October 2026
How ToolCustody works
From approved tool references to a checked handover, a recorded return and a tool ready for its next task.
This guide describes the trial scope. Access and the workflow supported for your site are agreed before the trial starts.
Set up one crib
A supervisor and the reference author agree the tools, tasks and permitted alternatives. An independent reviewer approves the reference version. Confirm the actual opening position, condition and borrower of each tool before it becomes part of live custody.
Check and hand over
At a named station, the operator scans a tool and selects its borrower, task, intended use period and due-back time. ToolCustody checks approved suitability, custody, condition, holds and required qualification. The operator confirms the physical handover only after the check passes.
Record what returns
Record the actual return to the review area, including damage or missing parts where observed. Review condition and resolve the required holds separately. Record restow when the tool has actually been put away. A damaged return remains a truthful return.
Resolve the exception
A supervisor handles disputed or missing custody, external service handovers and qualification review. The history retains who recorded each action. If a connection drops during an action, check the original result before doing anything else, rather than recording another handover.
